Home Sweet Home-

Overall I really like this home page. I like the logo graphic of the envelope and the colors used on the home page.  I liked the scroll down navigation menu.  I like that it gave a picture and an example of people who benefitted from the website. It looks like a real website because it has a sign in and a sign in spot on the front-page. One thing I think that could approve on and something that the author might not like is that it is confusing to the viewer at first because it’s hard to know what to focus on first. Another thing he might say is that the goal of the website is not obvious. It mentions a “match” but some people might not understand what that means. But overall it is appealing to the eye.

Menu Fairy-

I really6 like this home page, there are almost not critique’s. I love the logo of the fairy. The buttons work and I like the change when you scroll over them. The discount coupon is a cute touch too. The reason for the website and what it does are right on the homepage so people know why they are there and how to go about using the website. The graphics that are used like the restaurant search bar look very neat and the use of the picture of a local restaurant helps they audience connect with the website. All of the possible page links make sense and people can understand what will be on the pages that it leads to. I feel that even the author of our book would find it hard to critisize this page.

Midnight Madness-

This is a very visually appealing website. I like the black background with the brightly colors.  The logo is very well done and visually appealing. The event of the month graphic and the request a song graphic were nicely done.  I am confused about the lorem ipsum; I feel that if she would have had actual writing there the website homepage would have been a lot better. With the lack of those words it’s hard to know exactually what the website is for, which would be something that the author would have noticed. The navigation system was well done too, it was large and easy to see and it had roll over and scroll down charts. Again the coloring of the website is very appealing and it is an easy website for people to navigate.

accesibilty Monday, Apr 21 2008

Right now my website does not really take into account section 508. There is nothing to help those who have a disability, for example being deaf or blind. One thing my web page could add would e to have the page be read to the person trying to access the site. to help those who are hearing impaired i need to make the website compatible with hearing aids.  Another thing is for the trailers of movies that people watch on my website will have captions will they are watched by those who are hearing impaired. And just like that yahoo mobile i would need to make a page that would be compatible for cell phones that people use to find out when movies are playing when they are on the run. A way for them to check times and even buy tickets when they are not able to use an actual computers. Many movie goers are at the age where they would mostly use their cell phones to check movie times.  As of right now my website has not followed section 508 but with some changes more people could enjoy the website.

navigation systems Wednesday, Mar 19 2008

http://www.regmovies.com/ticketsandshowtimes/

This website has a cool navigation system, when you go over the links to the individual movie pages it shows you the title of the movie.

http://disney.go.com/index

When you go over the links at the top of the page, it like sparkles and there is a picture above it that highlights so that you can see the picture better. Its hard to explain so you might just want to look at it.

http://www.mtv.com/

This navigation system has a drop down menu when you go over the links at the top so you can get to the exact page you want to.

I think for my page I am going to have one that changes colors when I go over mine.

Newspaper Versus Website Wednesday, Feb 13 2008

Although the New York Times newspaper and website have the same stories and pictures, looking at the website and reading the newspaper are different experiences.  One of the big differences is that there are blogs on the website were viewers can give their opinions. The website also has video clips that obviously aren’t in the newspaper. The advertising is different; first off the newspaper has more advertisement. They advertised things like jewelry, perfume and cars. On the website they had ads for things like University of phoenix, capitol one, Nokia, and Netflix. The advertisements in both are on the side of the stories.

On the website the “front page” articles are in a list and you have to click on them, and in a different order then in the newspaper. Then it lead you to a page that has the article and they had the same pictures that the newspaper. On the front page of the paper they have like a table of contents that tell you where to find for example the sports and on the website it’s on a bar at the top of the page. The website is easier to use because you don’t have to turn pages and links to all the stories are on one page.  The pictures in both have color that they add to the pages. The text is black in both. So although they have a lot in common it is a different experience.
